Smithsons’ Golden Lane Project

The Golden Lane designed by Smithsons is not only about how to keep the continuity of the street and the architectural form in the city but also proposed a kind of idea to use the armature to integrate the infrastructure and main program.

When the landscape has been considered as a kind of element to urban design. One example of the megaform as urban landscape is the High Line in New York. Even though the form of it was transformed from the abandoned railway but when it has been designed. That form fit the program of landscape perfectly. The experimental design showed that landscape embedded with the potential to become the megaform of the city.

High Line in New York

Iʼm still reading the book Megaform as Urban Landscape to help me understand more about these radical theories.

Go through the whole process of the study in Architecture in undergraduate, Iʼd like to pay more attention to the practical projects and construction things which might relate more with the built environment of peopleʼs living experience. But after I started learning about urban design, most of the theories which belong to modern urbanism are more abstract and proposed on the premise of idealism since there are more complex elements and diversity relating to the urban.
