This semester I read a book named Landscape as Urbanism, this book inspiring me a lot in finding the relationship between landscape architecture, Architecture, and urban.

The landscape is artificial in nature. For most modern citizens, it’s hard to imagine living in a city that is full of skyscrapers and heavy traffic jams, but it is also hard to live in a hundred percent natural environment. Landscape, as an artificial nature, plays an essential role in balancing the sense of technology and nature in the modern city.

In the early modernist city designers, the landscape is more like a piece of green shape showing on the master plan to make the city look not too tedious with simple facade modern architecture. It’s a kind of component used to showing in the perspective to create a harmonious scenario. Currently, landscape design is not only to design the space under the sky but also to design the space in between.

With the development of the city, more space is being occupied by the buildings and housing, but the open space is the place to let people aware of social life that we lived in a diverse world, there are different kinds of people living around us. The landscape provides people a place to stay and relax. Unlike the plaza and street, which has high mobility public space, the landscape is able to make people slowdown in the intensity of life.
